By making “Sweet,” I am expressing my thoughts for my daughter who has Japanese lineage, but growing up in the U.S. The vintage silk kimono fabric for a girl and obi fabric represents the symbolic dress of Japan. The vintage jeans represent the symbolic clothes of the U.S to me. I combined these two materials and folded them as origami cranes which has positive meanings in Japanese culture. This represents the aspect of the cultural duality in my child’s life which is unique and precious. My thought is that she would have positive identity with dual cultures as a unique and beautiful person.
