"WSU & ISA: 10,” Clayton Staples Galley, Wichita, KS
I exhibited the works created from my experience at an artist-in-residence program in Umbria, Italy, in the summer of 2009, alongside two other artists. The paintings are “alla prima”—works created en plein air, or outdoors, on location. Each painting was completed in about three hours. The drawings were created back home, after the residency program ended, receiving inspiration from the background landscapes depicted in paintings by 13th- and 14th-century Italian painters such as Duccio and Giotto. I titled my portion of the works in this exhibition “Portraits of Landscape.”
